New Sefer Torah for Emmy Monash
The Goldschalger Family Synagogue at Emmy Monash was recently the venue for a joyous simcha with the completion of a new Sefer Torah that will now be permanently housed in our synagogue. Over one hundred people joined in the celebration that included a procession along Hawthorn Road, and culminated in a Kiddush and family celebration.
Walter and Robert Rapoport donated the Sefer Torah in honour of their late parents Edward Abram and Lola Rapoport z”l, past residents of Emmy Monash.
“Our parents spent their twilight years in the care of the wonderful staff at Emmy Monash, with its synagogue being a focal point for them on Shabbat and Yom Tov. What better way to honour our mother and father than by perpetuating their memory with a Sefer Torah, whose wonderfully embroidered cover bears their names”.
Board member and Past President, Frank Tisher acknowledged the Rapoport’s dedication to Emmy Monash and ongoing support of Rabbi Stern and his growing congregation. He stated,
“With the commencement of our building project in Hawthorn Rd this year, our facility will now not only include a modern, new level of accommodation, but will also incorporate an architect designed synagogue, and this new Sefer Torah will be a most welcome addition.”
The purchasing of letters and verses, enabled Emmy Monash to raise much needed funds. The Emmy Monash family is extremely grateful for the generosity shown by the Rapoport family.
