APAC Award Finalist 2016
Bridging the Gap, an Emmy Monash intergenerational initiative, has been shortlisted as a Finalist in the 2016 Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards.
Recognised in the “Best Active Ageing Category” as a leading positive ageing program, Bridging the Gap encourages reciprocal learning and breaks down negative stereotypes of ageing. Connecting youths and seniors through activities, the program provides a means of engagement, leading to the development of meaningful relationships.
Unique to Emmy Monash, the program is run in conjunction with Mount Scopus Memorial College students undertaking the Year 9 Community Service. The program inspires participation in outdoor and indoor activities between active seniors and high school students. The multi focus of physical, mental, social, cultural and spiritual builds relationships and reciprocal learning.
In its fifth year, Bridging the Gap enhances holistic wellness measures through religious, cultural celebrations, Zumba Gold dance, conductersize, seasonal outdoor walks, yoga and contemporary activities with borad appeal to maximise health and wellbeing. The program also includes topical discussions, group quizzes and reflections, fostering mutual trust and respect, breaking down generational barriers.
